Case Study - Miss R, 37 years old
Breaking Free: Reclaiming Life After Trauma Miss R. contacted me for a Shiatsu session as she was experiencing symptoms of Fibromyalgia, sleep problems, digestive symptoms, PTSD and anxiety. Her nervous system was also running high in flight or fight mode. We discussed her health history and found she was holding a lot of trauma in the body from a relationship with her ex husband who physically abused her so she was holding a lot of fear. She is also an EFT therapist so has been working on herself to help manage stress and anxiety. Her first session was helping her to relax as much as she would allow. Gently working with her so she could feel safe and supported during the session. Shiatsu touch is very healing and calms the nervous system and the mind to allow release of tension in the body. After her first session her feedback was... "The massage healing was spectacular, releasing my body a lot. I was sad a little in the evening as the release happened. Every place where you were touching me, I had a vision of an accident and PTSD. The right side was with father and partners, the left side was the mother, sisters and generally women. Abdomen was a difficult and violent birth and situation with my daughter. It is incredible how I felt." Her next session she was able to talk more about her family history of being the eldest of three daughters, she took on the role of looking after her sisters and mother making sure they were ok. She became responsible for their needs and happiness putting her own needs on hold. This created a pattern of trying to fix or feel responsible for other peoples pain and suffering while neglecting her own desires of happiness. As patterns and belief systems are created in childhood we are working together on helping her let go from the body and energy field. In this session we were able to go deeper into working in her energy field. Working on letting go of family members that were draining her energy and explaining that she needs her energy for herself and that everyone has their own connection to the earth for support. She felt upset but relieved that the burden of supporting her family was lifted from her and knowing that they would be ok without her giving her energy away. |
She is naturally compassionate and sensitive to others and feels the need to help when people are suffering or in pain. We are teaching her how to take care of her own energy and put her own needs first. Learning energy hygiene tools like breathing exercises and disconnecting and reclaiming decrees. Also teaching her better boundaries that it's not her job to fix everyone.
During her Shiatsu session her body was more relaxed especially the arms where she was holding a lot of tension due to being in protection mode. She was able to allow herself to let go even more knowing that she was safe and supported. Her feedback from her last session... "I am feeling amazing. It is an incredible feeling. I am sleeping a lot now which is good. I started to be happier wherever I am. I can feel it is internal satisfaction more rather than external and having expectation. I feel a sense of my life more and my connection to soul has come back in terms of holistic and spirituality. More joyful, interest to live, enjoying every moment. I wanted to escape from pain and move to England because my transformation is long and I couldn't see progress in the last 3 years. And I was exhausted emotionally and physically. " Recommendations and aftercare We continue to work together and go at a pace she is ready for as releasing trauma from the body takes time. When working with clients and their traumas, conditions and associated symptoms, we have to demonstrate to the hypervigilant nervous system that CHANGE CAN COME WITH EASE. About the Nervous System Your nervous system is incredibly complex, but it’s also incredibly sensitive. It’s the highway that connects your brain to every other cell in your body, and it’s what gives you clarity of thought, makes you feel good or bad, and even affects how you digest food. Your nervous system is directly connected to almost every part of your life, so it’s no surprise that it can be sensitive. Any number of factors can lead to stress within the nervous system, and it can have a wide variety of implications on your physical and mental health. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to heal your nervous system, both immediately and over time. |
